Polymer Today, many Asian companies are export-oriented and follow the expansion of international trade in the region. The RCEP Comprehensive Economic Partnership, which entered into force in January 2022, aims to create the world’s largest free trade bloc among its 15 signatory members. In this way, it will create more incentive for production in Asia. As Asia’s first-class plastic and rubber exhibition, Chinaplas looks set to help industry players unlock RCEP opportunities. In this way, it will contribute to the prosperous prospects offered by the Greater Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao (GBA) hub. This event will be held on April 17-20, 2023 at the Shenzhen World Convention Center.
With the theme “A Brighter Future Shared with Innovation”, the event will present innovative plastic solutions and related market trends in an exhibition area of 380,000 square meters. According to the organizer of the event, participants from the global plastics industry will discover a balanced mix of international and Chinese technologies that will cover a wide range of applications and transform end markets.
Transforming the Asian trade bloc into a global production hub
China and 10 ASEAN member countries in addition to Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand as 15 signatories of the RCEP agreement provide preferential access for certain products in selected RCEP markets. Businesses in the region will now benefit from the elimination of tariffs on more than 90% of goods over time. These products range from plastic materials and mineral fuel to food and beverages as well as other chemical products. RCEP supports Asia’s growth as a global manufacturing hub.
According to United Nations statistics, Asia’s industrial value added increased from $2.7 trillion in 2000 to $9.4 trillion in 2019, while Asia’s share of global industrial value added increased from 35.9 percent to 50.9 percent. China’s share increased from 6.4% to 24.9%, while ASEAN’s share increased from 2.8% to 4.8%. The 15 RCEP members had a total share of 40.2% by 2019, compared to 29.4% in 2000. In 2021, imports and exports between China and the 14 other RCEP members totaled 12.07 trillion yuan ($1.73 trillion), Chinese customs data showed. It increased by 18.1% compared to the previous year and accounted for 30.9% of the total value of China’s foreign trade. Thanks to the liberalization under RCEP, further growth is expected, creating tremendous prospects for the plastics and rubber industries.
GBA is uniquely positioned to maximize growth under RCEP
Companies in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau (GBA) region can take advantage of the global opportunities provided by RCEP. In particular, Shenzhen and Hong Kong create synergy to accelerate the global expansion of companies. With strong support from the central government, Shenzhen is expected to become a center of innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity. Hong Kong, with its strength as an international business hub, has long been a privileged business platform for managing outbound investment from the mainland, including investors from ASEAN and other RCEP members. These advantages give Shenzhen and Hong Kong unique importance in global expansion
A brighter future through innovation
In April 2023, Chinaplas will return to Shenzhen, the gateway to GBA and RCEP, as well as the booming technology and innovation center of southern China. The upgraded technologies and smarter solutions showcased at Chinaplas 2023 can help the industry take advantage of emerging opportunities in RCEP and GBA and respond to changing markets in real time.
More than 3,900 exhibitors are expected at Chinaplas 2023, including eight national pavilions with companies from Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and a regional pavilion that will showcase Taiwanese products and services. Eighteen subject headings will be covered in the halls of machinery and chemicals and injection molding raw materials, extrusion machinery, 3D printing, recycling, smart manufacturing, bioplastics, composites, high performance materials, thermoplastic rubber and other technologies.
Chinaplas has become a preferred platform for the plastics and rubber industries to introduce new products and solutions and showcase innovative materials and machinery technologies. In addition to leading technologies and practical solutions from around the world, Chinaplas provides a platform for domestic companies to grow with the spirit of “professionalization, refinement, expertise and innovation”. Buyers from multiple industries, including automotive, manufacturing, electronics and electrical, medical, new energy, packaging, recycling and sports, will find a large selection of products and services related to their industrial needs at this exhibition.
Several concurrent events are being planned, including think tanks on circular economy, smart manufacturing, and design innovation.
